I ran my first 5K in I don’t remember how long, finishing in just under 30 minutes. I totally tanked the last kilometer due to being ahead of pace and my mind saying that meeting the goal is meeting the goal irregardless of capability.  Yes, I feel guilty for it now, but at the time, all I was thinking about was under 30. I ended up finishing high in my age group, among women, and overall. Well, by high I mean top half. LOL!

What’s new? We’ve been keeping busy! A couple of weekends ago, we had The Boy’s culminating event at Riverfield. It was a lot of fun.

Later in the day, Kevin and I went to my friend, Carrie’s, wedding.

Did things slow down on Sunday? No. We had an open house (no, the house is not sold), visited our former neighbors in South Tulsa, went to church (duh!), and …

Then… I jetted out of town on Wednesday to teach a section of a class in DC. I love DC. I want to live there forever. Anyway, after a quick Wed-Fri trip to DC, I returned home. Of course, TB had soccer on Saturday. The ref for his game is always a hoot and great with the kids.

Later, we went to dinner at the boathouse and spent Sunday watching the TU women win the Lawless Cup. Again. They’ve never lost this ragatta, and I almost feel bad for Creighton for never having won.

The women on the team LOVE TB, so we have a team full of potential babysitters. I must admit, he is a charmer!

We had dinner at our friends’, Ken and LeighAnn’s house. A couple of days later, I was in Oklahoma City for the latest round of Leadership training. I am now in Level 3. There is a level 4, supposedly, but I not know anyone who has done it. Anyway, in OKC, we were joined by the Colonels (they run our districts) and the senior leaders at our Division office in Dallas and our Districts (Little Rock, Fort Worth, Galveston and Tulsa). The entire three and a half days was exhausting but worth every minute!  On Thursday, I interviewed for the opportunity to go to the National Senior Leaders Conference.  Really, the three days leading up to the formal interview were taken in to consideration too, so it is no wonder I was exhausted!

I was not selected, but in the debrief the next Monday, Col Funkhouser told me what I had suspected all along– I was not selected because I have already been exposed to a lot, due to the assignments I have taken, and others in the program are further behind and have more to gain by going. It was hard to hear that I was too experienced, but at the same time, I anticipated this would happen going in. I told him that I am not upset, and I am not. They are trying to get me in by volunteering me for a “task” and if one of those selected cannot go, I will fill in for them.  The Col gave me a lot of great feedback about my interview in general, mostly positive, because I told him that I made my own list of improvements, read them to him, and he told me all those things were minor, but the “meat” was there.  Sorry to bore you with the details, but LDP is taking up a lot of my time! I am also our group’s project manager, so there are those duties to keep up with too.

Of course, missing four days of work put me way behind, so I worked an extra hour the next Friday and then came in Saturday, but I wanted to do that so I could start the next week on schedule instead of behind and rushed!

And I think the most exciting and humbling thing to happen was the morning of my interview Kevin called to tell me I had a letter from the church. I had been nominated to become a Deacon! I went to that meeting last night and after a weekend of reflection and prayer plus the information from last night, I am accepting that calling in my life.

The week before last, I also added to my plate chairing the membership committee for the Lettermen’s Association, so I have spent some time doing research on marketing and outreach. This is not an area where I am incredibly talented or knowledgeable, but someone needed to step up. I have a great committee to work with, so hopefully it will go smoothly. I know the current President and our incoming President quite well, so that is also helpful.

Last Friday through Sunday, I did a lot of work on the house– staining the deck and yard work (mostly planting flowers, though they are not done yet). I also planted some of our container garden, though I wish I had more garden space! I am considering adding a small bed garden to our back yard to grow some additional food. It is no wonder our freezer is full by fall and empty by spring! It saves us a lot of money though!

This upcoming week, I will be traveling to DC to teach a section of a training class. I am excited to see some of my coworkers and friends out east again, though it will be a short trip (leaving Wed night, returning Friday afternoon).

The Boy has been rocking soccer. His blog will get updated again soon too.

Kevin is busy working out and trying to help at home and with The Boy. They really are adorable together.

I am sure I am missing something…it’ll give me something to write about next time. ha ha!

Kevin was a red-shirt freshman on that team… nostalgia all around! It is mind-boggling thinking about that team. They really did have a full roster of players who could have started!  Kevin did another interview too, and we’ve been told that article is being saved for the upcoming weeks. I’ll try to remember to post it when it is published.

• Kevin returned!
• We went on a date to Oscar’s Gastropub. The service was great, other than them being out of every beer I wanted to drink, and the food was amazing. I liked the fried green beans best, but check out my dinner? Yes, and entire HALF of a chicken with veggies under it and macaroni and cheese on the side. Kevin’s portions were just as HUGE. It was a great to sit and talk with Kevin though. Almost like old times…you know, before The Boy. Now that he’s older it’s a lot easier to leave him for a few hours without worrying about him!

• The Boy is really enjoying having Kevin around. (So am I)  TB especially enjoys playing with daddy. Apparently he’s more fun than I, and I will take it!

• Those who know me know that I like to have crazy shoes for TU sporting events. I’ll post an anthology of my shoes some day, but for now, these are the latest in the long line of fun shoes!

• The Conference USA Tournament was in Tulsa. We took The Boy to a couple of games. He liked it, and was REALLY mad when “the blue guys” were no longer playing. Kevin ran in to his high school coach who is now coaching at Houston, so that was kinda neat too.

• In a (not so) stunning turn of events, last Friday it was 70 degrees. Saturday it was 32 and snowing. The Boy LOVES the snow, and he got Kevin to take him out to play! They threw snowballs and had a great time.

• The Boy has started soccer. He’s actually pretty good and keeps up with the four year old in the group. Kevin dislikes it when I snap his picture, but he looks too good not to. Plus, it is fun to take pictures. I took over 150 of TB’s first day of soccer. Not kidding. You can see them all online. LOL!

• I managed to get accepted in to the next level of the leadership development program at work, so I am once again swamped there. I also took on a few national projects, which is exciting and stressful at the same time.
• Kevin’s still working out and staying fit. We’re not sure if he will get picked up for the playoffs somewhere or not. The basketball market is much like the rest of the economy right now. In the tank.
• I’ll try to update more often. I promise.

**The Boy got healthy and returned to school. I went back to work and was WAY behind.

**I applied for the next level of leadership training at work.

**Kevin is getting released from his current team. If the team finally gets it together, he has a chance to go on a two day tryout and sign with another team for five or six weeks.

**I am applying for a position in another part of the country. I have no idea if I am or am not qualified, but I am going to try. We have nothing to lose.

**The house is still on the market. A lot of people are coming through again with the first time home buyer credit about to expire for a second time.

**I was able to watch Brooke and Paul’s baby yesterday, and I must say, Parker was as sweet as an infant can be. AND The Boy loved having him around. He said he wants one (Um, no. Do not get that in your mind people.) and would share his mommy (still no people). It was cute.

**I do not have to work today, and The Boy does not have school, so we are heading to TU for a play date. I am not sure this child knows how good he has it!  The Boy has been all over TU and can name many of the buildings. Yes, I think this is a good thing.

**Um, I’m running out of things to say today. Until next time…

On the positive side, a four plus hour nap yesterday was a relief for both of us, but makes bedtime a little less than desirable.

Anyway, so it’s day 2 of illness, and his temperature is back up over 100. His cough sounds horrible, but at least he isn’t coughing all of the time, and I pray the bloody nose stays away!

1:30AM  The Boy wakes with a yucky sounding cough and is restless.

2:30AM He still hasn’t settled down, so I got him some homeopathic medicine for his cough/cold. He has a temperature of a bit over 102 degrees.

3:00AM The Boy FINALLY is back to sleep.

5:00AM He wakes coughing again. He’s restless. While his fever is down to 100 degrees, he is miserable.

I think I slept between 3-5 hours and am tired myself, so we are fighting this together.

Oh the joy of parenting.

On the other hand, I was able to update his blog and this page. We have read a lot of books together, and I get to see The Boy smile at me even if he only acts sick 3/4 of the time.

Oh, and at 9:30 he is finally willing to eat something. Poor kid.

I can’t wait until he naps. I’ll be sleeping too.
