Ever since the ice storm of December 2007, I have been a bit jumpy any time an ice storm is predicted for Tulsa. We were without power for nearly two weeks.  Unfortunately, they are predicting a big one for the Tulsa area beginning overnight tonight, turning to sleet and then snow as the day goes on.  Current estimates are for over 3/4 of an inch of ice and 3-5 inches of snow. Below is a graphic indicating the predicted effect on the power grid. I live in a hot pink (labeled 4) area, which indicates severe damage to trees and the power grid.

I have considered fleeing to Minnesota or Texas, but I don’t necessarily think either of those is wise for a variety of reasons.  For now, we have plenty of food and water, but absent power, we will be very cold. I am going to pick up the blankets from storage tonight, and I have already contacted the friends we stayed with last time. They live just a couple of miles from our home so I am hopeful that we will at least be able to drive there, if necessary. I will be packing our bag this evening and checking the flashlight batteries. This could get ugly… but I am praying for our safety and the wisdom to do what is right for our safety.
