I have not had the best of luck with shipping packages lately. First, before Kevin left, I had a series of unfortunate visits to the post office. The last visit was so bad Kevin had to take the package to a different post office, because I was ready to head to FedEx. Needless to say, when a friend was set to ship me a box last week and asked my shipping preference, I replied anything but the US Postal Service. My friend obliged and sent the package via FedEx, where she had a less than satisfactory wait and experience.
Fast forward… fedex tries to deliver Friday, but because the package needs a signature, they could not leave it. I put the doortag on the table and figured I’d call on Saturday. Well, I should have read it closer, because they also deliver on Saturday! Needless to say, I missed that delivery too, but this time I called right away to ask them to hold my package for pick up. No big deal– the pickup location is just a couple miles away from my work, so I can do it during lunch. Oh, but not until Tuesday, because it is not open on Monday. (What?)
Well, Tuesday rolls around, and I head out to the place at lunch. It’s actually moved from the old location, so I call to double check that I am headed to the proper place (I was), but the call-center employee decides to check that my package is even there. He tells me it is on the truck for delivery! I anxiously reply, “What??? I asked that it be held, because this is the third day I’d miss the delivery!” He apologizes and tries to end the call at which point, I become frustrated and press on asking what he is going to do to help remedy the situation and insisting that he double check that it is on the truck. After he checks, he says no– it’s being held. After some additional pressing, I ask him to call the station and find out exactly where the package is.
After talking with the station, he comes back again and says it is on the truck. Finally, I ask him to transfer me to the station, so I can figure out how to get my package. The gentleman at the station was most helpful and for the first time someone apologized for loading the package when it should not have been loaded. After some more calls (by the man at the station), the driver from the truck called me, so we could arrange to meet and get the package! YES!
Fortunately, the driver was near my house, so I zipped on over and was able to get my package. I felt bad that it was in the WAY back of the truck, but I would have missed the delivery again. The driver was very kind, cheerful, and all around great.
Yes, I took down his name (and that of the gentleman at the station) and will be writing complimentary letters to FedEx raving about their help and “let’s get it done” attitudes. Too bad I can’t say the same for the call center.
Shipping stuff can be such a headache…
