Yesterday after practice Kevin called. There is nothing unusual about that, but he said he was packing to leave for the game.  Usually they leave on Wednesdays, so I was a little perplexed. He went on to say the team “thinks” they can catch this flight tonight, but they’re not sure, but the team is driving the hour or so to the airport in hopes of getting out tonight. Um, what? OK. Kevin thought they wouldn’t be able to leave and would have to drive an hour back home and then back this morning. Was he right?

A while (a couple of hours) later he calls me laughing.  The first thing I thought– oh, he WAS right. They’re headed home. Well, turns out he was right, but not yet. He called laughing because “something happened in the bathroom and sewage is overflowing. Oh, and that means everyone is piled in half of the airport AND IT SMELLS!”  LOL! At least he and his teammates were able to laugh about it!

While we were still on the phone, Kevin got word that they were leaving the airport and would have to take a flight today.

On the flip side, during today’s call he revealed that they are staying in a really nice hotel again, and that the team is treating the guys well…at least compared to other teams in other years, so that is a complete and total blessing. On the other hand, he also said that they have to treat the guys that way, because otherwise no one would go to the middle of nowhere to play for this team. Touche. Touche. I’ll still take it!
