Thursday morning, we woke up around our regular time, but instead of heading out the door to school and work, we went to the airport. We arrived the requisite two hours before our flight, which was WAY too long, but spent some time watching airplanes take off and land, including some jets from the Air National Guard. They were very loud– even though we were indoors!
The flight to Atlanta was relatively uneventful. The Boy was well-behaved, and enjoyed his “special treat” on the airplane. Because he is now two and needs to be in his own seat during take-off, landing, etc (really as much as possible), we discussed his being buckled for safety (yes, he repeats that), but the change in air pressure was an anticipated problem. Because he is too young to chew gum, I thought smarties would be a good substitute. We also used skittles and m&m’s for various flights. All worked wonderful, and on the last flight, I was able to not use candy, and instead I explained that drinking from his cup would make his ears feel better. He complied and said it worked. Whew! Maybe on the next go around, we can skip the candy all together. Anyway…
We arrived in Atlanta and met some friends for a few hours of play. The Boy and R took to one another quite quickly, and it was great to meet another basketwife in person. Camilla and I had “spoken” via email, instant messaging, and finally by phone, so meeting in person was a great time! Several people asked if our sons were related. LOL!

The Boy was excited to get on the big airplane– and exhausted– so we parted, and headed on through security in ATL to go to ride the train to the big plane. Once we made it to the gate, we met up with Marcia (Kevin’s teammate’s wife) and her sister.
On the big airplane (borrowing from The Boy), he insisted on wearing (and playing with) the earplugs. He was FAR too excited to sleep and did not for a long time. At one point, I told him to snuggle while mommy sleeps. He did, and eventually he did fall asleep, but it was relatively short lived. He is a stretcher, mover and shaker in his sleep (and awake), so being confined to his seat or me was a challenge for him this time– more than ever before!

At one point, I had to go to the bathroom, so he went to our friends to sleep for a bit. I snapped a picture, because I thought it was cute.

Due to the overall lack of sleeping on the plane, there were a few moments like this while we were waiting for Kevin to arrive.

We found a store though and bought some balls to pass some of the time.

We also went to the third floor of the airport and looked out the window. In the event you want to check out the children’s play place in the airport– it consists of kids tables and chairs. Bring your own fun.

Then The Boy crawled around in places normal people can’t fit!

At that point, we headed over to the arrivals area to meet Kevin as he came through the glass doors.
