When we woke up on Sunday, we hit the road for our bus tour of Milan. The Boy was still sleeping, so I threw him in the carrier, but he ended up waking up before the bus came.

We had a good time touring Milan– first on foot and then by bus.

The Duomo– beautiful inside and out. The outside had just been cleaned, and the marble was stunning. The stained glass windows were beautiful too. We weren’t able to stay inside too long, because mass was being performed, and The Boy was a bit too noisy.

From there, we walked through the Galleria Vittorio Emaneuele II. The Galleria is covered with glass and houses some luxurious shopping and dining, including the first Gucci Cafe.  On the other side of the Galleria is La Scala Museum, where we were able to briefly view the opera house stage from a box. Rehearsals were about to begin, however, so we were rushed out of there and in to the museum portions where we were able to take in some paintings and history of the opera house and its importance to Milan and Europe.  When we left La Scala, we boarded the bus for the non-walking portion of the tour.

From the bus, we saw some very unique cars. I liked this one the best!

Our next stop was the Castello Sforzesco. Due to our reservation for The Last Supper, we were only able to stop for five or ten minutes, but we went back another time. The people of Milan refer to the fountain as the “tort de’ spus” or wedding cake fountain. The Boy had fallen asleep on the bus, so he missed it!

I put The Boy back in the Beco Butterfly, and he slept through most of The Last Supper tour.

At the end of the tour, we returned to the Square in front of the Duomo and enjoyed a nice lunch in a cafe.  The least satisfying portion of the trip was constantly being hounded by beggars and other pushy Italians wanting money or to show you their latest “trick.”  I sometimes take it for granted how when living in Europe I am able to avoid these tourist situations, but overall, the trip was amazing.

More to come…
