Today I feel like we are bleeding money. It is my own fault I suppose. Certain things have been put off for a variety of reasons– primarily financial– but with Kevin working, I am trying to get them all done before the well runs dry, so to speak. (That’s the summer, btw, and it won’t really be dry, but it is a lot easier to spend while he is earning rather than watching our savings dwindle.)

Anyway, point is, today the car is in the shop for a tune up and tire rotation. When I dropped it off, I explained a small problem that was going on, and they are going to try to recreate it/find it while they have it today, but when I stopped last week, they could not locate the cause of the noise. A second issue, I was told, needs to be dealt with at the dealership. The thought of taking the car to the dealership gives me heartburn, because I always leave feeling like they overcharge! Then again, if it keeps the Envoy running, I need to suck it up. A few hundred dollars is better than a few thousand or worse– having to buy a new vehicle!

Hemorrhage number two is our dryer. It has been out for almost two weeks. I really don’t mind, but let’s face it. At some point, I will need the dryer to function again, and I am certain that Kevin prefers to use a dryer over the drying rack.

Hemorrhage number three, which I have TOTALLY been procrastinating on…still… is we need to fix our gutters in the back of the house. Still. I cannot find matching gutter, so we will have to replace the guttering in the front too. It is stressful to me.

Hemorrhage number four– we need some additional insulation in our attic, but that might have to wait another month. Our house is old and when I had someone check our insulation a year ago or so, I was told our R rating is about 13. That is WAY low. Too low.

There are some additional small repairs and such that need to be done to the house as well, but are less important and time sensitive. For example, we would like to have someone come out and re-balance our heating/cooling vents so that the master bedroom heats/cools similarly to the rest of the house.

Before anyone gets their panties in a wad. I am not complaining. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to have these things done that need to be done, but this is a struggle of mine. I like to hoard money these days– mostly because The Boy is expensive and I see that private school tuition looming on the horizon– but I also want our house, vehicles and life to be in working order. Yesterday. Patience is not my strongest personality trait, but I’m working on it.

I am taking the afternoon off to meet the dryer repair man, write and clean up the house a bit. Mostly to take some time to do a few things that I want to do. There are a lot of things I should do, but I need to practice some procrastination today. Maybe if the repair man comes and goes quickly enough I will have enough time for a bubble bath and to pick The Boy up early enough to take him to the park!

This is the life… on this side of the pond anyway.

P.S. I found out through a comment on A Piece of My Mind that the blog (A Piece of My Mind) was nominated for an Okie Blog Award in the category of Best Writing Blog. How cool is that? Only Okies can vote, but if you’re an Okie and are inclined to vote for my blog, I’d be most appreciative! :)
