I was going to write about the ATM winning (I left my card behind. It was gone. The ATM probably ate it. I canceled it and ordered a new one.) and the random lady having a seizure at the baggage claim, but something extra-ordinary happened tonight. I was doing homework in the hotel room when my phone indicated I had an email. I didn’t pay for the internet yet, because I thought I could wait until morning and save some money.

The message, it turns out, was from a soldier I wrote to during Operation Desert Storm/Shield. I was just a fifth grader. I started writing as a project for my English class, but a soldier wrote back to me! I felt REALLY special, because things like that just don’t happen to me!

Well, she was going through some old things and found the letters I had written and decided to try to find me on the internet, and she did via facebook. Honestly, I’m still in shock– not just that she found me, but because she still has the letters and pictures and could picture me as an adult enough to know the profile picture was me (or at least guess).  I am also a bit teary eyed. In just a few exchanges this evening, she has really warmed my heart and touched my life all over again.

If this trip keeps going like this, I could write an entire novel! Amazing.
